Anyone using a Honda Accord/Prelude Fuel Pump?

Just wondering if it would mount in stock location fairly easy (looks like the bracket unbolts)and if it works OK. I haven't had one in my hand but looking at the picture,looks like it would be a fairly simple swap. Mine is starting to "tick" so I'm thinking it won't be long before it quits.

I read this on another forum but here is what they did, I cant personally verify if it worked or not:

"The fuel pump on my '84 Aspencade died and after reading some posts about an alternative replacement decided to go with a pump for a '85 Honda Prelude, which was suggested by another Goldwing owner. It costs @ $60 which was cheap compared to a new OEM. This pump bolted up using the original mounting holes, and the fuel lines were located in the same place as the OEM pump. The OEM pump was chrome and the replacement was not and was larger than the OEM. I found a round, chrome exhaust extension that after removing about 3 inches from the length, it slipped over the new pump and fit tight enough that it will stay without vibrating off. I now have a chrome fuel pump at a fraction of the cost of a new one from the dealer."

I used a Bestest fuel pump from O'Rileys #BE8016S as It fit into the original bracket. I used two brass 90 degree fittings to "flip" the output up and over the top of the pump toward the carbs and fabricated two bracket "extensions" to move the pump up and back a hit to clear the side cover I have. It's been several months and it's working like a charm. Hope this helps.

I have poor running at high revs so may try a pump if filter doesnt cure it, UK ebay only brings up different looking Accord pumps, mostly intank

I will take some pictures this evening and see if I can figure out how to post them. If you squint and look at the pic of my bike you will see plastic side covers that completely cover the carbs and side of the engine area.

Has anyone here used the 85 prelude pump? If so , did the bracket come off so it would mount in OEM bracket? I found done new ones on eBay for $42. Mine is clicking badly sometimes more than other. I changed filter that may have helped some, but not much. I want to replace before getting stranded or leaking w/o spending big $ at dealer.

Here is a pic (I hope) of the Bestest fuel pump from O'Reileys that I installed on my 85 Aspy a few months ago. I had to set it up and back to clear the side covers I have that enclose that entire area, hence the "basic" look with no attempts to pretty it up, it's all covered. Works like a champ, pump cost around $30. I should have paid more attention to that clicking sound and I may not have gotten stranded on the way to work that lovely hot summer morming! I have several more pics from other angles, will be glad to share if anyone asks.

Thanks for the info WingNut. I also have the clicking fuel pump and want to replace before I get stranded. I purchased a new '85 prelude pump on eBay for $42 and will be installing next week. Anymore pictures or info on install would be greatly appreciated. I also have the side cover and will not need to dress up, just need to get mounted & hooked up.

HONDA Accords & 1983-1985 HONDA Preludes OEM

If your Prelude pump has the intake and output on the same end like the OEM then you are pretty well home free. I had to re-site mine due to the output being on the opposite end. Just make real sure you know which is hot and which is ground on the new pump and on the bike before wiring up, don't depend completely on wire colors!

Thanks, they are on same side like OEM. I will check with meter yo make sure it's pumping in tight direction. I just hope the existing bracket will bolt it down if it's a little larger diameter. I checked at a Honda dealer about pump to see price & was informed its not available, so I hope it works. I'll let you know.

Slightly larger is no real problem. If you look closely at the picture you can see that I added a nylon bushing to the mounting strap because the pump was a little bit larger. Good luck with it.
