Weeping fuel pump
Tried searching and couldn't find any posts on this.
My fuel pump is weeping around the rubber grommet through which the wire enters the fuel pump. Is this a common failure for these pumps? Ordered another pump but just wondering if this is a common problem.
I bought this bike about six weeks ago and was just about to take a test drive when I found this weeping.
FYI I had the carsb rebuilt by Mike Nixon of http://www.motorcycleproject.com. Did a great job on my carbs and I would highly recommend his service to anyone needing this done.

Well, I have 150,000+ miles on my 1985 Aspencade which still has the original fuel pump and never had any weeping.

Strange and alarming too if gas is leaking out of the electrical connection/grommet.

Are you sure it is not just a leaking/loose fuel line clamp that is then migrating along the outside of the pump case to that grommet?

most times a pump just gets weaker and will not pump enough fuel, or quits entirely.

There are Honda accord fuel pumps that are interchangeable with the OEM 1200 pump.

Do you know the part number of that Accord fuel pump? I just checked online for a GL1200 pump and found one at Saber Cycle for around $230.00, way more than I intend to pay.

Checked the connections and there isn't any leakage from them.

I ordered a new fuel pump, I thought I paid around 135.00 SD. I'll check and post when I GET HOME.

I paid $ 155.20 for the fuel pump and shipping. Ordered from BABBITTS SPORTSCENTER. Hopefully it is what I am looking for.

Fuel pump for the early honda accord is a similar size and delivers adequate pressure. Or go to auto supply, and get a Master E8000 or equivelant. Honda Civic Same thing, but a teensy bit smaller in diameter.
Or the bosch pump at the local NAPA store

I have a 84I with 120K-ish miles when I hear a ‘click’ sound coming from the fuel pump. I continued to use the bike while looking for a replacement pump. I found a used pump locally off another 84 with low miles just as mine started to weep from the same place you described. Upon opening the pump (took a bit of doing) I saw it was a seal which had started to go bad and would weep to the lowest point in the pump which happened to be where the electrical went in.
Since these pumps can’t be rebuilt I just tossed it, but understand how they work.

To answer your question, my pump did weep out the same location as you have described.
