Rear Brake Spider Bracket - Retainer Part No 43112445631

Hi,
I am busy servicing my LTD's back end. The rear brake caliper is attached to a "floating" bracket which is an alloy 1 piece casting. Looking through the parts manual it seems that something called a Retainer Part No 43112445631 should be attached to the alloy bracket. My alloy bracket doesn't have this small retainer part attached and to tell you the truth I haven't been able to figure out what that small piece of metal does - not even sure how it is attached. I can obtain the part but can someone explain what its purpose is before I shell out for it - no longer working and can't afford to ship it over here if I don't need it. Thanks for listening. Terry |

I will go take a look at mine and maybe take a picture of it and maybe be able to answer that for you..

I think it is a wear protector of some kind, it is steel, the aluminum part it fits on possibly would wear, not sure but just a guess.
All three calipers should have them. One was missing on a bike I just got but I did find one in a parts bin, it was off an Interstate, which has narrower rotors so I had to make a couple of cuts and do a little filing. There are two small tabs which clip into two holes and one edge is formed so it clips on but it is kept in place by the actual caliper.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.
