Engine mounting bolt wont line up

Hi all,
Working on a poorboy install. Got the top bracket mounted last night. This morning I removed the Engine Mounting bolt to put on the lower Alt. bracket, and the darn bolt wont go back in. The frame to engine hole is off by maybe a 32nd of an inch. I put a jack under the left head and gently tried to raise the motor but no luck. Loosened the right mounting bolt hoping to get some wiggle room, no luck. I'm afraid to stick anything between the frame and the motor to pry...my crack the Aluminum casing. I've even had my 125lb kid stand on the outer peg hoping the weight would help. Anyone else run into this? Any suggestions? Thanks!! |

Possibly it is the bulkhead subframe that is slightly out of line, loosen the other side a little
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Thanks.
I got it. While typing my first post I got a little smarter and thought about if the motor wont go up....maybe the frame could be forced down some. Sure enough, had my kid pushing in and down on the frame piece while I pushed & turned the bolt, we got it!! Now for some reason my Alt. doesn't line up with the lower bracket extension piece...looks like I"m gonna have to add about 3/8" of spacer. Other than that, things are moving along now. |

Loosen the engine mounting bolt & the lower alternator bolt. Install the belt, pull the belt tight, tighten adjustment bolt, tighten lower alternator bolt then tighten engine bolt last.
