EMGO Fuel Filter

Attached are photos of the New EMGO fuel filter after 1 week in use. I just cut the metal ring and separated the end housing. the filter element just fell out. The so called glue was already falling apart.
I installed a NAPA GOLD , part #3011

I just did a complete carb overhaul, now I'm wondering if any of the glue particles are down in my newly overhauled carbs and if I need to take them back out for inspection ???
Gasoline with 2 ozs. of MMO and 1 oz. of STA-BIL Marine stabilizer.

That filter is a mess, thanks for the post. I think I would put the new filter in and run it, I would only pull the carbs if I needed to.

I've been runing an Emgo fuel filter for quite a while now, no problems at all.

Generally, you won't know you have a problem unless you open the filter and inspect it. Or you start having carb / fuel related issues.
The glue used in the construction is disolving in the gasoline and passing through the carbs. eventually, other things will end up in the carburetors also.

I only opened this brand new filter after a week's use because of reports I read about this brand of filter on another GoldWing forum. I thought to myself, no way do I have this problem. But since I just spent about two weeks on a carb, overhaul, I thought an inspection was warranted. I had new spare EMGO filter anyway.
When I saw this, I was somewhat disheartened. I went to my NAPA parts store and got a NAPA Gold 3011 filter and installed it.

I just found the same problem today, rebuilt the carbs three weeks ago and everything was great till the weekend bike started acting up again . Decided to pull the carbs again to see what I did wrong and when I removed the filter noticed it rattled, when I opened it up the filter was seperated from the top of the case. Time to start over not very happy. :cry:

I just hope I pulled that crappy thing outta there before any of the filter s**t got down in my newly overhauled carbs....

there has been so much bad written about emgo fuel filters lately that when i replaced the filter on the 1200 i went to napa to get it

I've been using EMGO for a few years now and this Spring, when I did the annual out-of-storage-get-ready-to-ride-again servicing, I cut the old EMGO apart after installing a new one. I didn't notice anything that would give me cause for concern. Maybe the really bad ones were just part of a bad production run. Given the cost of Mother Honda's item, I think I'll stick to EMGO for the time being but look in to a NAPA part for future use.

Does WIX make a fuel filter for our 'Wings?

WIX and NAPA Gold filters are one and the same. WIX manufactures the gold filters for NAPA.
If you want a WIX, just add a "3" to the front of the NAPA part number and that's the same filter.

After reading the post by Ranch55, I went down to the local NAPA outlet and picked up one of their 3001 Gold items. $3.89 Cdn. The same item with a metal cover (part no. 3031) instead of the plastic was $5.53 Cdn. These bits are, as Ranch noted, made by Wix and, as such, should be top quality.

I haven't had a chance to check yet but the NAPA item seems to be somewhat fatter than the OEM or Emgo units. If that is the case, does the stock holding clamp still work? :-\
