Upgrade project to start the 2011 season
Parts are all in and it's time to begin the new upgrades. New Progressive's for front and rear. SuperBrace for front fork. Rudy's Keeper kits for saddlebags and side covers. Spin on oil adapter, and front fork seals not in photo. And new CarbTune Pro for balancing carbs.

I just did my forks with the progressives, will get a chance to reinstall forks on SAturday. Before I do I am doing the timing belts and brake pads. If all goes well I should have the bike back here in North Jersey by SAturday night.....

you might want to drill and tap the fork caps for 1/8" pipe plugs while you have them off, makes changing fork oil later an easy task

Yes, I've read about installing the pipe plugs and plan on making that modification. I did have a question, are the caps that are drilled at the very top? I see looking down from the handle bars chrome nut caps at the top of the forks.

i think we are talking about the same thing, they are the caps which hold the springs in, 1/8" brass plugs work best in sealing imho

Is this the cap to be drilled and tapped for the plug? Or is there another cap inside holding the spring?

Holly COW! I have EXACTLY the same parts x's 2 for my 1200's...yep..including the lid keepers! Well, the keepers are for my Aspencade. I also have steering head bearings and timing belts + the wire kits from Electric Connections to power the coils right from the battery.. But, I won't be doing mine until Mother Nature gives us a break :YMPRAY:
The weather here is NUTS!! Confusedhock: Last Fri it was + 9 and raining and most of the snow melted, then Sat the temp dropped like a rock and it snowed..again! Yesterday it was wall~wall sunshine..then today..more snow and wind..WTH? And now it's about 9PM and the sky though cloudy is Orange??? There is a weird glow to it Confusedhock: Confusedhock:   do~do~do~do.... :-SS

Go to Rudy's Backyard, scroll down for the entire keeper list.

I found the Gas valve on an old Natural Gas hot water tank
has nice flush 1/8 inch plugs that work
great in the fork caps.

I'm pretty sure the way to get height is new and proper fork springs.

Yesterday picked up new motorcycle lift from Sears. It was a Christmas present from the wife and I told her back in December I wouldn't need it til the parts arrived. Pretty easy tear down with the Wing on the lift and 15 inches off the floor. Removed bumper bar, saddle bags, and saddle bag crash bars. OEM shocks came off with ease. Got the new Progressive's mounted with limited wrestling and the bolts are just finger tight. I'm not rushing the project as riding season is still a few weeks away.
