EMGO Fuel Filter Failures! A Must Read If You Are Using One.
Found this on Steve Saunders site and did not see anything posted here about them....

Here is the link on Steve's site:

After reading through that thread I figured I had better check my filter, even though I had just put a new one in a couple of hundred miles ago and I was not sure what brand was in there.

Well lo and behold I had an EMGO so I yanked it out and drove over to NAPA and got one of the 3011 filters. It will fit on the bracket and bolt in place like an OEM filter and only cost $3. While I was at it I put all new fuel lines on. With the 3011 filter and new lines she is running just fine.

I have found a few places on line that sell OEM style filters cheap like JC Whitney, JPCycles, Cheap Cycle parts etc but the thing that concerns me about ordering from them is that they do not state who the filter is made by and they may very well be EMGO filters, from the problems in the above mentioned threads I will not be using EMGO filters ever again.

My ole girl is running really good and I would have been very upset if that EMGO filter had broken down and clogged the carbs.

Some pics of the EMGO filter I took off, this is after only about a month and a couple hundred miles. The element just fell out when I cut open the case, notice the brown stains inside and on the tips of the case.....The first 2 pics are of the NAPA 3011 filter installed...

From what I have seen on other sites it is not just the filters for the 1200's but across the board for all of them.

What really sucks is if someone goes through the time and expense to rebuild their carbs and think they are good to go by putting on a new EMGO filter they are going to have to rebuild the carbs again in a short time.....

sometimes we try to save a dollar and it ends up costing us alot of time and aggravation

unfortunately this had been going on for several years with emglo, would have thought that most dealers would have changed their stock or dropped them

anyone that deals with someone who carry's this line should complain to them strongly

Hello all, New to the site and to gl1200 ownership. Great bike and i love it. Just an opinion about the topic. I used a Mr Gasket clear glass filter on mine the one i took off i think may have been original to the bike when it left the factory. It was in bad shape. I like the clear glass mostly cause i can see through to see if the replaceable element needs replaced. Cost was only $10 US at Pep Boys. Had one my cb900 custom and it worked great for years. The only issue was that it is about 1/4 inch smaller in dia, and about 1/2 inch longer than stock. But i used a piece of rubber from an insulated electrical conduit strap to keep it in the mounting bracket and avoid any damage from vibration or a hard bounce from a pot hole or bump in the road.
