New Motad SS exhuast!
I couldn't find resonably priced headers for my '86 SEi, so I bit the bullet and bought a new Motad exhaust system $-) . The new exhaust went on very easily;infact removing the old system was much harder. There are only 2 issues I have with the system, but I knew about both before I bought it. The pipes turned to a gold hue after the first short (10 miles), and the mufflers do not exit as far back as the stock system did. I now you can polish the pipes to bring them back to a silver color, but it matches my bike colors (creme/tan) and I don't want to do it after every ride. Like I said, these are not issues I am concerned with, but I just wanted to let others know about them.

As far as how they work. The sound is very smooth and melow :YMAPPLAUSE: . Just the way a Gold wing is supposed to sound.

the connections from the header to the pipes
is it just a slip fit or what? and do the headers use the same type of gasket seal at the heads?

tks for the pics

Nice, I wonder if they make extensions to bring it out the back of the bike?

The headers do just slip into the mufflers and there is one clamp on each muffler. No gaskets.

You use the same copper manifold gaskets as factory has (don't come with exhaust though). To fit the header to the head, there is a small flare on the end of the header. You slide (from the muffler end of the header)another flared piece on and then the collar. Bolt the header on with the new longer style nuts.

I have read that they do make extensions but they are pricey. I heard between $150 and $200. I have not asked Motad to verify though.

I bought the system from e-bay. There is a company out of the Chicago area, that is selling them from Motad both on e-bay and from their store. Their e-bay store is "annitori distributing".

As far as just headers, I do not know. You would have to contact them to see.

I have a Motad SS exhaust and the slip on extensions.

In the UK the cheapest I have seen the exhaust systems is circa £320 (on ebay) which is about $450. The quality is brilliant but of course the headers are not double walled so they do colour. I bought my extensions for £45 on flea bay - they appear on ebay from time to to time - normal UK price is about £80.

I too bought from motad with the extensions. Nice and quiet don't mind the colour change as blue and gold aren't so bad on a black bike. Wife likes the extensions as they put the sound behind her. One thing, keep the clamping gusset that holds the header on and reuse them. The air finned aluminum ones that come with the new exhaust changed shape and cracked when torqued enough to keep them in place, not right away but over 4000 kms.
