where to start...dead radio on 84 aspencade
i have an 84 aspencade with radio only. looks like some intercom wiring inside of the fairing pocket under the drop-in plastic tray.

The factory radio doesnt even power on. where should i begin???

The clock does work as do all gauges....

tried putting myself on your map but link doesnt work for me.........

first thing would be to check the radio fuse in the fusebox

How long have you had this bike and was it working when you go the bike?
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

only got it 4 days ago. found a decent used one........been well cared for and carbs ,forkseals, beltcheck were done in spring. stator is putting out well(14.5 at idle).

radio was not working when i got it. no radio no tapedeck. no power at head unit at all.....not gonna spend a small fortune to get radio working but thought checking it out might be fruitfull. you never know..

hopefully u find find a forum member close that u could swap out unit with to see where the problem is

we are talking about the stock panasonic unit right?

at worst you can send it to sierra and it will come back A1 shape for $95,cheapest and easiest way to go actually as long as you know that your present unit has power but just doesn't work

okay just went out with test light and some internet info...

with key off im getting juice at pin 7 at slide tray connector. with key on im getting volts to pin 6. If my info is correct ..7 is cb(im figuring is constant on) and 6 is deck power with key on. deck is no lights/screen. im assuming deck is bad........

I would assume that CB would only have power if the IGN was turned on otherwise the CB would be powered on all the time which isnt the case.
I wonder if CB (7) if constant on is the memory supply to keep the stations in memory in both radio and CB.
Removing the fuse from the side pocket 7 amp would cut the power to there.

Sounds like the radio is dead, however you could try this: on the radio open the contacts a little with a tiny screwdriver so that they have a little more pressure against the pins when you slide it in. sometimes with the constant banging the contacts loosen somewhat.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Tricky made some good suggestions. Myself, I would try the radio in another bike with a working radio and try that radio in your bike and see what happens.

if radio is dead sierra electronics is pretty much the only people that will touch them

its $85 + s/h for repair, whatever is wrong they fix and return for that price pretty much, cant recall ever being charged more than the flat fee and if its beyond repair they will tell you

fast service, just had three repaired and turned around in less than a week

I have an 84 aspy, and live in St. Johns, north of Lansing. If you get to my area let me know. Bring your radio and we can put it in my bike or bring your bike and we can try my radio in yours.
