electrical problem - where should I start

I just went out to start the bike. When I turn on the ignition key, I get a headlight. But when I press the start button, the bike is completely dead and the headlight goes out - not even a click. I have a bad connection somewhere. Is it the starter switch? Where should I start looking?

I checked the battery and have over 13 volts. I also cleaned the terminals just to make sure I had good connections. The charger has been on it for a day.

i would take and have the battery load tested at a reputable shop
you might also check and see what happens if you jump the starter solenoid with a screwdriver even though battery tests 13v it may have no "cranking" amps available or at least not enough to even click the solenoid there are alot of things, you might even check the integrity of the dogbone and/or replace it with a 30 map ato fuse holder

Tear into the starter relay located behind the battery and look carefully for burnt wires and bad connections, repair anything that looks suspicious and then try starting the bike. This is a common issue with GL1200's.

I took apart the connections on the starter relay. I found some corrosion and cleaned up the connections. Put it all back and it fired right up. Thanks!

glad your problem was that small, hopefully you cleaned up some of the other connections while you had the cover off
