Stainless brake & clutch Lines
Over the winter Wayne (wgj46) and I contacted a person in Canada to have some stainless lines made, He had never done them for 1200's before and he wanted a set for a pattern, I sent him my lines and he made up two sets.

My bike is an 85 Aspencade but as far as I know all models other than the 84 Standard are the same ( I am not certain that the standard is any different, I have never checked one so I don't know)

They were good quality lines, and I guess Wayne and I were the guinie pigs so to speak.

I have since asked him to make some alterations such as matching the hexagon coupling fittings to the steel lines to OEM rather than the flat sided auto type that he used on the first two sets and adding a swivel fitting to the clutch line at the slave end.

He tells me he has done this so I am placing the web site and price for the 5 set lines here.

The lines are thinner than the rubber OEM lines so this does neccesitate some additional work on our part to use the original grommets and a small piece of plastic tubing which must be slit and added where the lines go through the retaining clips. or use some electrical tape to make up the difference.

That is needed on any other make of stainless line due to the thickness or rather thinness of the stainless lines.

He does have a few different colors, we chose the clear if your going to have stainless lines you may as well show them off Smile

The website is:

http://www.classic-cycle.ca/

His name is Phillip he was very pleasant to deal with.

And the latest price for the set of 5 lines (4 brake) and 1 (clutch) is C$185 plus shipping.

This is for plated steel banjo's similar to OEM Stainless for those who want them I believe are $10 each extra.

Neither Wayne nor I have any financial connection with him or his company and I put this on the forum solely for the benefit of our members and anyone else who has a 1200.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Do these attach to the steel lines in the tree? Or are they a complete Master to caliper replacement?

They replace the original and use the steel lines that are in place on the bike.

Have the swivels been added to the clutch line?

AFAIK yes, but send Phillip an email and ask him.

The first two sets he made didnt but I did ask him to incorporate the swivel for the clutch line.

I know a firm in the UK who makes the hoses up individually by length (puts them up on UK ebay cheaply). Does anyone have the correct lengths of the hoses/lines for an 85/86 Interstate ? If you dont but have them for other models it might be useful to put them up here.

I have dealt with http://www.classic-cycle.ca/ and I can tell you that Phillip is excellent to deal with.

Goodridge Braided Hoses HONDA GL1200 AE-AH ASPENCADE

This kit includes 4 brake lines (3 for the front for standard setup, and 1 for the rear) , supplied in Stainless Steel Braided hose with Zinc Plated Ends in CLEAR coating , should you require a Kit with Stainless Steel Ends please let us know.

Are these going to fit my Interstate from the same years ? Is Zinc plated okay ?

All GL1200's use the same size brake hoses so they should fit but clarify this with the seller and get confirmation that they can be returned if they don't fit. Zinc plated will work but eventually they will rust whereas stainless steel will never rust (well, hopefully not, anyway, as I have seen some very cheap stainless steel become rusty.)

I ordered a set yesterday from Phillip; You can get colored "inserts" between the lines and the ends. Idea

I believe that you can also get different color plastic tube over the braided stainless hose or is that the same as what you're talking about.

No, it's a small piece right at the fitting; He sent me a pic, it looks like it hides the crimped part at the banjo end. You can get different tinted colors for the covering, and as you mentioned earlier you can have SS fittings or plated. Idea

I just ordered my second set from Phillip, for the 85 Aspy that I acquired recently. I used cad plated on the first set, I just make sure they have a coating of polish on them. The OEM fittings were plated and they didnt rust, at least not on my bike Smile
