86 Aspendcade 94K
Confusedhock: Just bought a 86 Aspencade with 94k on the ticker.
New tires, front fork seals rebuilt. Been sitting in a garage for 2 years. Was running. I am new to Goldwing. My last project was a 1979L CB750. Went throug it conmpletely and have been riding that.
This Aspencade will be my new project bike. Are there any pecularities to the Aspy that I should know.
Thanks for any information. i will be going through the charging circuit, carbs and what not until I can get my hands on a shop manual. I am guessing I will be doing the Poor Boy project on this machine.
Thanks Confusedhock:

Welcome to the forum. You’ll find a lot of useful information here and even more helpful people. Four things that jump to mind are:

1. Find the three yellow wires for the stator located behind the battery cover (left side cover). If the connector is still there, cut it out and solder the wires together. That connector has been the cause of stator burn out and premature ruin. (Battery acid, heat and fumes)

2.Don’t be afraid of the high mileage. I’ve put more than 115,000 miles on mine and it still runs like a champ. I’ve been told we can expect 200,000+ miles with these bikes.

3. Don’t worry about the loud ticking that comes and goes from the head area. It’s a common ghost that we all seem to have.

4. Don’t worry about the clunky shifting. Some have quieted it down with synthetic oil, others say it doesn’t matter. Just make sure you don’t use any oil with paraffin (wax) in it. Just look on the back cover of the bottle. In the little circle, if it says “energy conserving” or something like that, don’t use it. The paraffin will stick to the clutch disk and cause slipping.

@-) What is the firing order and which cylinder is #1 #2 #3 #4?
Does this bike use Pulse Generators? Is there 1 pulser for 2 cylinders? Does bike use one coil for 2 cylinders? This is not an SEI model. I', guessign it may have the same carb setup as my 79 CB750?! Maybe? :YMPRAY:

All GW use the pulse gens.

welcome to this forum
pretty much everything you want to know has been discussed at one time or another and you can look thru previous post in each index and find it

on your profile you listed 85 ASPY but on your post you have 96, i'm sure you meant 86

right?

you can just go back and edit it

So the gas tank is not where it is usually? Have not read through the manual yet. But from the post it seems to say that the gas tank in front of the seat is not the gas tank. Is that right or am I in la la land?
