Aftermarket exhaust
Guys, and Gal, I need to know if the aftermarket exhaust systems are good. J.C. Whitney has a set of slip-ons for 1200s and Show Chrome has a full system. Prices are around $400 and $500. Anyone tried them.
Thanks, Robert

i used a set of the MAC slip ons and they work pretty good, sound is not much louder than stock

chrome isn't A1 but not bad, definitely lighter than stock system and easily put on

dont know exactly who makes the ones that whitney sells but here is an ebay link to what i used

If you want loud, try a set of jardines. I put a set on my 85 and it is a whole lot louder than stock. At least I can hear it run when I ride with the Harleys. 8)

Thanks to all for the get-back. I want a set of exhaust pipes that look good, not necessarily loud. A little sound would be okay though. The web-site on E-Bay has some I may try.

price dropped because the dollar/pound changed and the dollar is worth more than it used to be 2 months ago

Installed the Mac mufflers yesterday. They are a little louder than stock but not objectionable.
I had to cut the original headers off because they were rusted out. The thicker part welds fine so I added a 3" or so iron pipe to each that fits inside the mufflers. They went on easily enough after that although you must be sure to have the extensions angled like the original.
Pity that Mac doesn't make them a ffew inches longer to reach the back of the bags.

I also got the turndowns but have since cut them off an welded a 15 inch extension on them to bring them to the back of the bags. I also adden three 3" brillo pads from
Walmart to each pipe to mellow thm out a little. Sound very nice now. The pads are held in by a cross grill I made using wire and the welder.
