Windshield Opinion
I know that there has been much discussion around which replacement windshield to buy.
My newly acquired '84 has a seriously scratched up view.
I was wondering if any members have a 'Clearview' windshield on their '84 to '87 GL1200 ?

My online research is leaning to that brand and I would like to hear opinions from owners of the same.

I have a slip streamer wrap around that was full of scratches. I used a sheep skin buffing wheel and a bottle of Plexus now my w/s is clear and clean as a new one. I did this three years ago and it still looks like new.

I have a buffer, but where do you get Plexus in Ontario?

(Thanks for the tip)

I got it at Canadian tire; you could try places like Napa, Parts Source, Car Quest or Wal-Mart, you can also get it on line. You have to use some elbow grease but it is sure better than buying a new one.

I use a Memphis Shades windshield and I think it's great. Got it at www.chrischrome.com

In emails they have said they are 28" wide which is what I measured my original one at with
the "wings" on the sides...

Ken, I'd be concerned that I could not close that vent in a rainstorm. That's why I installed an operable vent in mine.

Well, I tried to buff out my windshield - with no success.

I picked up kit which included sandpaper for stubborn scratches and polish, etc.

As I was polishing (before sanding) I could see a map of 'Afganistan' in several places on the windshield.
Both sides, front and back appears to be worn through one layer of plastic in random places.
I tried the sandpaper on those areas and it only highlighted the problem.
This windshield could be the original for all I know.
I abandoned the refurb and happened upon a screamin' deal at JC Witney, so I picked up a new wraparound for over $100.00 off !

I may add a vent in it later if we need it.

Thanks for the opinions on the topic.

I just saw the picture Ken and assumed the worst. I sure like the operable vent in my Memphis Shades windshield that I purchased at www.chrischrome.com

I don't think that I'd worry too much about that Ken unless you're using a jigsaw with a very coarse blade and not keeping the foot of the jigsaw tight to the windshield that must be covered in masking tape. I used a cutoff wheel on a die grinder to cut out the square sections of my windshield then used a small router for the round corners and had no problems whatsoever.

Well got my new Cee Bailey windshield on today..
It is a little thicker and definitely wider.... 5 inches wider up top..
its like haveing the wings from the original extend to the top of the shield.
With the hot weather today I just wasnt up to trying it out yet, but it should be
better and with the vent hopefully cooler..
You can see the difference in the two pics below
