Rebuilding 1200 starter
Well my rebuider is gone until monday so with a rebuild kit in hand I went to work. If i want to ride this week-end I would have to do this myself, so to the shop we went and dove right in. The inside wasn't that dirty and the brushes were still good but I replaced them anyway, the gear grease was old so I replaced, it installed one bushing, gaskets and put it back together. Tried to bench test it and it is shorting back to ground, won't turn over at all, took it back apart and checked for anything touching the armature that shouldn't and found nothing, put it back together and same problem, shorting to ground? Any ideas...Thanks
Mitch

Are you sure it is shorting back to ground, if you are just hitting ot with battery cables it is going to spark like crazy,

takes a lot of power to get it moving.

Well took everything down again but no joy, it will spark to ground with the armature out of the case? I checked the small rubber washer that goes around the cable post to keep it from touching the case and it was where it should be, looks like no riding this week-end either
