Hi Beam doesn't work
My gl1200 Interstate has a problem. Headlight works on Low beam but not high beam. Are there 2 different bulbs or only 1? Any advice would be appreciated.

It's only one bulb with two filaments, one of the filaments is burnt out so replace the bulb.

I had the same problem on my 86. You can get a new bulb at Wallyworld (Walmart)

If not the bulb (which it probably is) then clean out the high/low switch on the left grip.

Most common quote from a cager after killing a motorcyclist.

"I never saw him" instead of "I never looked for him".

Do you guys know what bulb the Wallyworlds carry?

My low beam is out, I need to get on that very soon. I have read good things about the Sylvania Silverstar.....????? (is that the right name??)

Sylvania Silverstar H4 is what you're after as they are great and make a considerable difference in the lighting. I've seen them at Walmart over here but I can't speak for across the border.

Thanks for all the help. So I am looking for a Silverstar H4. What about if I wanted to replace all my lights since I do not know how long the lights that are in there have been in? Turn signals, brake, etc?

Cool, thanks Vic.

I'm going in search of voltage requirements for that bulb....I assume it is a good replacement for those of us still running the stock stator?

Again, thanks....

I seem to recall reading that the voltage required was lower than stock due to the type of filament and type gas in the bulb.

I really appreciate all the information everyone has posted. I have bought a lot of new parts with everyones advice. I came across something else I am unfamiliar with and wanted an opinion. What is and what good if any is a "headlight modulator"? Thanks.

It is an electronic device that switches the headlight on and off rapidly to make your bike more noticable as it drives down the highway. It is not legal in some areas and some cops in certain areas where it is legal seem to think that it is not legal so make sure that you carry the written law with you to keep you out of trouble.

Yeah, heaven forbid that a biker make himself/herself more visible. The folks that write our laws are so twisted.
