I was wondering that myself. The ones I recently bought off ebay looked like this:

They are solid and attach using the oval clamps. They were NOS, and on the original Hondaline bag they had a part # of 08161-ML8-001G.

Maybe the split aids in installation, though I cant really tell how they actually install in the first place. They must tuck into the ends of the muffler and then you use the bag of screws to secure them.:?:

Wow! The lowest cost set of extension at this source is over $160, and their Drag Specialties 7" Oval Turn down Extensions for the GL1200 'Wing are listed at $199! $-)

Although before 2009 I paid only $99 for a beautiful set of Saber Cycle STAINLESS STEEL pipe extensions, now they're selling them for $119. They went on very easily and clamp on perfectly. Since the day I put them on the extensions haven't budged and the shiny stainless can't be told apart from chrome. :d

My reasoning for adding STAINLESS STEEL downturns is that the road and pebble hits unlike chrome wouldn't cause rust to start at those dings.

I have the stainless steel downturn extensions from Saber Cycle. Mounting is fairly easy with the oval clamps. However, first you have to take a hammer and flatten the lip of the end of the muffler, then the extension has a round pipe in the end that goes in the round hole of the muffler pipe, then the oval clamp goes over both lips of the extension and muffler. Very clean installation and two years later they still look great.

I believeSaber Cycle still charges only $119 per set ...

but, their specs say: " ... Mirror-polished high-grade (304) stainless steel oval exhaust extensions that extend approximately 11 inches from the end of the muffler for GL1200, except Limited and SEI. " I don't know if they mean that on SEIs the pipes extend less OR they cannot be used at all for some reason on the SEI. You'd have to ask them which is correct.
