going even further get a piece of small ducting and mount it down into the airstream to get fresh air to it

I have also thought that mounting a 12-VDC 4" computer fan onto the regulator/rectifier housing would help too. Have the air flow directing toward the regulator housing fins. The fan's power leads would connect to the Acc. terminal of the fuse block.

The very best way to deal with it is to mount an external alternator. No heat, no problems, lots of current.
