Engine Output Shaft Seal
Hello folks, I just completed a lot of maintenance work on my 86 GL1200 and one of the items I changed was teh engine output shaft seal just forward of the u joint on teh drive line. The seal that came out of the bike has the markings HS and either SD3 25 54 12 or 503 25 54 12 on it. The local Honda dealer ordered a new seal for me, but when I received it I noticed it was not identical. They advised me that it must me a "new style" seal for the shaft. With reluctance I installed the seal and put the bike back together...not it does not drip...it puddles! The "new" seal is different from the old one in that the old seal is recessed about 1/4 inch from the face of the seal (the metal rim). With out this recession the u joint actually touches on the rubber part of the seal and obviously chews it up. Does anyone know where I might be able to get the proper replacement seal? Honda does not seem to be able to supply one that will work.

Thanks, Stephen.

There's plenty of OEM Honda parts sellers. I use PowersEdge.
