Rebuild Header & Muffler Joint

I picked up an 86 Aspencade the other day with a great history and a loving owner and then a short term neglectful recent owner, so lots of potential with the right TLC. Anyway I knew about it having an exhaust problem but wasn't sure of the severity until I started the teardown. The headers had rusted through at the junction with the muffler and the flanges are in a similar state of disrepair. I've cleaned up the break and removed the original tips from the muffler section but am now having issues rejoining the pieces. I've been to a couple hardware stores and haven't yet been able to find a clean joining option. Does anyone have experience with this situation? Long term I'll look for a suitable replacement exhaust but aside from that one section this set is really not bad even the battery stain is coming clean. So I'd like to save them and put my money towards one of Randakks kits at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you referring to the packing material on the joints.??? If so, then you can get them from Honda... It's a sorta soft lead mesh type material...

No Sadly the actual flanges on the muffler and the extensions on the headers that go in to the muffler have suffered severe damage from being kept outside. I've been able to clean them up and am probably going to spend the afternoon at NAPA trying to find a way to recreate these pieces. I was just curious if someone had already tried this and had some insights.

Replace the exhaust or measure the rusted ends carefully, cut off the rusted ends and weld on new pieces of pipe to replace the rusted ends. I got a number of extra years out of my exhaust system by doing so.
