Low fuel light
Hi guys,
i wonder if anyone knows how you can test to see if your low fuel light is working without almost emptying your fuel tank, i have never seen it on since i have had it( 5 years) although i have driven it sometimes when the fuel has been on empty and don't want to go less than that.
Any advice would be appreciated

I don't think the Interstate has a low fuel light. If they do mine don't work. Guess how I know? Poorboy

On my Aspy when I turn the key on the low fuel light comes on for a few seconds then goes out.

It varies by year and model. The '84 Aspy doesn't have a warning light. The last bar on the digital display flashes when on reserve. So, what year and model are we talking about?

My '86 Interstate has a low fuel light. Lights up momentarily when you turn the ignition on. Mine comes on when I have about 1 U.S. gal (4 litres) left in the tank.

My 1986 Interstate has a low fuel light. It comes on when the gauge reads about half-way into the red. I have not yet found the travel limit with the light on. Smile

Usually when the fuel light comes on you have approx 1 gal left in the tank. That is what I have found out and I ride a 87 interstate. Just Sayin' 8)

Sounds like an informed guesstimate. Not 47.5 or 49 with a tail wind? Come on, let's hear the story.

According to my wiring schematic, the 84 Interstate only had the warning light on California models. Check your instrument cluster carefully for a backlit warning light. If you don't see it, you don't have it. You could also remove the seat and inspect the number of pins on your sending unit. If it only has two pins, it doesn't have the warning feature. Don't rely on the number of wires at the connector, it may already be prewired with three. Disconnect the connector and physically check the number of pins.

So now I'm wondering. If it doesn't have a warning system, what type of fuel shut off does it have? Is there a position for "reserve", or is it just "on and off"?
