Change the speedo default from Kph to Mph on the GL1200
|
|
|||
If you have a look at the picture you'll see how the default of Kph to Mph can be switched by changing the jumper on the circuit board.
Thanks for filling us in on this Douce.

I've heard many guys complain about the default being wrong when the bike is brought into Canada from the U.S. and vice versa but now we have a fix to deal with that issue thanks to Douce.

On my LTD I can make the change by pressing a button on the computer control panel. :lol:

JimC, does yours change the default or does it just change the display?
All LCD equipped Wing dashes can be changed at the touch of a button but to change the default or what it displays when you first turn the bike on you need to go into the electronic board and manually change the jumper circuit so that you can set which display you want it to always start on. It's no big deal to keep pushing the Kph/Mph button but some guys would rather not have another country's default in their speedo.

That's a good point Vic. I'll have to check to see if it retains the change.

Erm, the circuit board shown is the dash, am I right? I thought it was the central computer on the LTD, but SEI's dont have that do they? Guess it's just a little more work than I expected. Maybe when the new riding season is upon us again.

Hi Douce
Could you tell me from which model of 12 did you take the picture of the circuitboard? The reason I ask is that I took the dash apart from my LTD and on mine there was only one jump bridge called J1 and no sign of a second like in your picture. I don´t now if the LTD was ever thought to be sold in Canada or if it was only meant for the US. |

Jocke Wrote:Hi Douce The picture is of a 1986 1200 aspencade. The jumper was installed in the top position. It started in MPH By moving it to the lower position It starts in KPH If you only have 1 jumper and it is closed I would open it and try it. Douce |

On my LTD I tried the switch that is supposed to make the display change from MPH to KPH, and I found that the only thing that changed is the "range" display. This indicates the approximate distance that the remaining fuel will cover. The speed indicator did not change at all. I don't know if this is the way it is supposed to work but that's what I expereineced. FWIW
