Antenna mount Q - aftermarket radio & CB

Hello all,

I have an 86 Interstate. I am replacing the failed aftermarket radio installed by the PO and adding a CB. I want to use one antenna with a splitter for both, and I think the stock antenna mount would be the best way to go. The old radio used a short antenna mounted through the dash, and I will pull that out (maybe put a voltmeter there).

I'm not sure if the stock mount comes ready to screw on an antenna and plug in the coax from the radio, or if something else is needed that fits into the mount (like a CB antenna terminal stud). I know the stock setup uses a Motorola coax connection, not the PL259 connector standard to CB use. I also know that the stock antenna has an 8mm thread and you need an adapter to use a standard CB antenna with the 3/8" thread.

Any other suggestions on mounting this stuff would be appreciated, too. The radio was mounted in the blank cover plate, which broke loose as the plastic clipls weren't made for the weight of a radio. I have an aftermarket radio mount plate to replace that, but might try to add some kind of clips to the old cover plate just so I can keep the clock space for something else (like the clock, eh?). The CB is a Midland 75-822, and will probably only be connected on long trips. I am adding a cigarette/accessory plug or two in the bottom of a fairing pocket for that and other goodies.

Well, haven't had any feedback from this group - anyone out there?

I have also found another wrinkle - it looks like Add-On made an antenna kit for the GL1200, but it looks like instead of the cable from the radio plugging into the antenna mount as with the OEM, the cable is directly mounted through the mount to the antenna. Is this true, or my misunderstanding?

Wish I had a nearby bike I could just look at, but I don't at this time.
