Adding an LED break light with pulsator.
I am adding an LED break light with pulsator. It will be attached to the bottom of the trunk rack. I am going to try and hide the wires on the rack. I do not want to put any holes in the trunk. I'm thinking that the wire could slip in and hind behind the passenger's arm rest.

This will be the only break light connected to the pulsator. I wanted it as high as I could get it...similar to the "third" break light on a car/truck.

My question...where would be the best place to "tie into" the break light wire? The LED bar light will only use a itty-bitty bit of amps so large wire and stator load should not be a problem.

I'm sure this isn't the first time someone has done something similar, but I cannot find a reference through a search...maybe I just ain't searched with the right incantations.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and/or advice...

Not sure on the wire to tap. I would just probe with a test light,Cut & SOLDER then cover with heat shrink. Curious....What kind of light are you adding? I've been thinking of adding one to the trunk lid. Maybe something like the "Euro" one here : <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://signaldynamics.com/products/LightBars/15ultra.asp">http://signaldynamics.com/products/Ligh ... 5ultra.asp</a><!-- m -->

Looks just like the one I ordered from <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.customdynamics.com/Light_bars.htm">http://www.customdynamics.com/Light_bars.htm</a><!-- m --> . You'll need to scroll down that page and find "15" Ultra Light Bar Red". Also you can use "vtxoa" (no quotes) in the coupon area and get a $1.15 off! Smile Total with shipping was $30.30. (8.50 shipping)

I should have ordered the one from JCWhitney
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2014353/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2014353/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=led+light+bar">http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Prod ... +light+bar</a><!-- m --> ($28.99)
I could have saved on shipping that would have made up the difference because later I found the modulator there. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2010076/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2010076/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=BRAKE+LIGHT+PULSATOR">http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Prod ... T+PULSATOR</a><!-- m --> ($36.99)

They had one cheap...er...less expensive ($20.99)
...but the answer to the question "Will this work with an LED 3rd break light?" was "This will work with any 12 volt lamp". So I opted for the other one.

One of the reviewers stated that he was using it on an LED license plate holder and it worked great...which drew very little amps. "The LED plate frame draws 100 ma (.1 amps)..."

Sorry, I cannot speak for how bright the light is or if the modulator(pulsator) works. I'm recovering form some surgery and hadn't made it to that task...yet!

I am going to make an L type bracket and attach it to the rack so I don't drill holes in the trunk. Plus, if I put it on the trunk I feel like I'll need to make a wedge type of bracket to make the light bar face straight back... But then...that's just my thoughts...Other thoughts are very welcome!

Remove the seat. You'll find the harness connectors for the the right and left saddlebags. They are four pin connectors. There should also be a three pin connector (probably on the right side) with a brown, green, and green/yellow tracer. This is the optional connector for the trunk lights on the Aspencade models, but all Interstates are wired for it. The tail/stop sensor doesn't monitor this, so you shouldn't have any problems in that respect.
The green/yellow is the power for your brake lights. Green is ground.
**the Aspencade wiring runs between the trunk support and the rear trunk to the rear light bar.**

Just found some great red strobe lights on ebay that should be great for for brake light assist and the price was less than $10 there are two of them wired into a plastic module they are super bright and have six hi-intesity LEDS in a small pkg ...the ebay auction i got them frm is Eaby # 140282511234 person has only one set left but there is enough info on the auction so that u could be able to order them frm some other place, probably not as cheap though.... i am going to afix them right next to the amber LED lights i have attached to the left and right antenna mount brackets....they are definitely attention grabbers... they are about 4" long x .5" wide and about .75 " height

I went to AutoZone and bought a 12volt light modulator that the young'uns hook up in time to their music. The kit had 4 led lights that didn't work very well. I went to Tractor Supply and bought the LEDs. Then riveted them in place on the removable bottom panel of the trunk. I placed the approximately 2' X 3' modulator box behind the license plate and ran the wires up to the removable panel.[attachment=1][attachment=0]

I'll try to get some pictures this weekend of what I've done.
