Main fuse Plug Melted

I just got this 84 Aspencade and slowly getting her back up to par...
was sitting for a year, new plugs, new oil and filter, new gas, yellow wires have already been done. Stator I think is out, and am planning on doing the poorboy conversion this next week but I did notice that the plug for the main fuse that has 4 wires to the right of the battery has been melted and could have been touching, the bike starts and runs fine when charged, but wont keep charge, could this be an issue here? Where can I get another plug like this or is there a way to by pass or redo this without a plug? I plan on doing the timing belts too when I do the alternator conversion. I am planning on doing a long ride from Reno, NV to my home town in Austin, TX stopping a few town and spending the night and then meeting with some other riders in Albuquerque, NM to ride with me the rest of the way to Austin and I just want to get this thing running as best she can! thanks in advance! this place is a great place to learn! here is a pic of her (can you believe I got her for a 3 wheeler and a trailer that cost me $230!) ![]() |

Absolutely not, all your doing is replacing the stock 30 amp fuse with a different type of fuse.
If your having charging problems I would check the plug to the left side of the battery, that one is notorious for overheating and burning. It has 3 yellow wires. Most owners cut out the plug and solder and heat shrink the wires together. While the wires are apart you can test the alternator. viewtopic.php?f=52&t=2630 Also check the plug at the regulator for overheating and do the same with the 3 yellow wires.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.
