unusual turn signal problem

Hi, I just logged on to this site for the first time, and I just bought my first Goldwing. In addition to other problems that I am slowly ironing out my turn signals are acting strange. When I hit the switch for a left turn, the front right turn bulb lights up. No flashing or dash indicator, and it stays lit till I hit the switch for a right turn and the left bulb lights up and does the same. I haven't checked the rear bulbs but I bet there doing the same. Emergency flashers work just fine. This bike has been sitting for a little while, maybe 6 mos to 1 yr , but has been very well maintained. This is one thing I just don't get. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Buy the way its an 86 1200i

Welcome to the Site!!
It sounds like part of the problem is the flasher. I think the emergency flasher and the turn signal flasher are the same so you should be able to switch them for testing purposes. As far as lighting up on the wrong side?? Don't know except that pushing the switch forward lights the right and pulling it back lights the left, or it should. Push the switch in to cancel.

I'll try to switch flashers , but I'm wondering why the wrong side. Maybe flasher is really messed up inside. That would be odd as this bike has always been garaged and otherwise mint condition. There are some aftermarket lights on rear but they seem to be wired correctly. I am going to get rid of them as it looks like a truck from behind. But the front has'nt been messed with. Thanks for the reply.

For your turn signal problem get a can of Silicon spray and put tube on and lube inside the slide with silicon and slide switch back and forth and keep working it them get a can of contact cleaner and do the same and them little critters that funk it up will be removed and should work as new.
