loses power at highway speeds
This is my second post, i just read alot of the other posts to see if anyone else had the same problem. Well here goes nothing. I have an 85 ltd with 19000 miles on her. My problem is that when i go for a ride on the highway everything runs as it should after about 50 miles or so it just loses power and bucks like a mule until i back off the throttle then she comes back to life but runs rough. The computers self diagnostic lights are not on nor is the fuel sys. light when i pull off to the side of the road to check it out. I can make it back to the house, but it runs rough and usually at about 50 to 55 mph. I am hoping that someone else has had a similar problem in the past. Have had the fuel filter replaced and throttles synced. I would really like to get this solved so i can enjoy riding instead of wrenching. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks Mike

Have you checked the fuel pressure when it acts up?
Traning will keep you alive.

Hey Mike-- is it the same MPH all the time? How about if you run it in 4th gear does it do it at the same mph...and how about 3rd gear, same question...trying to see if it happens in 4th, and 3rd but at slower speeds but at higher rpms.......if it does then me thinks TPS Sad ......just a thought

It happens when i am cruising at 70 to 75 mph in 5th gear. It does not seem to happen at lower speeds i normally shift gears at about 4000 to 4200 rpms. I have cracked the throttle a couple of times getting on the highway when i'm shifting. It seems that if you roll it slow your find, but if you nail it you will find a flat spot until you back off.

I have not checked fuel pressure because i don't have a gauge, but it sounds like a good place to start.

Definately sounds like somethings getting hot and failing. Fuel pressure is the best place to start. If you're not throwing codes, odds are pretty good it is an "unmonitored" item. My money's on the fuel pump. Can I borrow five bucks? Confusedhock:
