before i got the '84 aspy last year all i had test rode were 1500s. i was not let down by the 1200 but found the seat too low and the 1500 seems a bit taller. all in all i just wanted a 1500, white anniversery edition even though that is not what i have. short shifting a 1200 is say 2500 rpm, short shifting a 1500 is about 1800rpm. the power band in a 1500 is much lower than a 1200, red line is about 5500 rpm.most noticable is that a 1500 seems longer than a 1200. i would like to get another 1200 when i can find a place to store everything. the 15 is a good upgrade from the 12 i think

Marty I like my 1500 better overall. I am not let down any. The 1200 was more nimble in the twisties, but the 1500 does better everytime I ride it. MPG is virtually a wash for my riding style. My wife enjoys the 1500 much more and rides way more often. I like that if I get in a tight spot with the wrong gear, the 1500 has the power/torque to pull on out while the 1200 wanted to bog down. There is more tupperware to take off to do maintenece, but it is pretty easy to remove, just be careful and not break the tabs that holds the piece in place. The 1500 is much warmer (hotter) on the rider in my opinion. I do not thinkyou will be disappointeed if you make the change. I have not been able to find a board like this one yet. The GWRRA board is pretty good for information and I bought the DVD's on the 1500 put out by Illustrated Powersports.

Be sure to ride one before you buy. If possible spend a couple of hours on it. I had a 95 Interstate and now have an 84 Aspencade. I am enjoying the 84 a lot. I can turn it around on a side street whereas I always had a little trouble doing that with the 1500; it is a little longer. With my wife on the back I find that I can balance the 1200 easier, which just makes for a more enjoyable ride. If you want more power, in my opinion, save up and get an 1800. If I make a move again, I will skip the 1500. We get exactly the same mileage on the 84 as we did the 95, 42mpg on the highway.

Others will have different experiences, Honda has sold plenty of all their models so somebody must really like all of them. So just go out and find someone who will let you ride and you decide.

I also like the fact that I can afford two goldwings now, an 84 and a 78, instead of just one 95, and still have money left over.

my 1200 was great for a passenger once i put the trunk relocation bracket on it but i haven't had the chance to ride anyone on the 1500 yet. making a u-turn on a side street is no problem. if you were near me i would tell you to ride your bike over and we would switch rides so you could ride my 15 and see for yourself and while i have relatives in vegas i will not be riding that far for awhile

Love my 1500.Not saying I didn't like the 1200,but for what the wife and I do the 1500 just works better.I have no interest in an 1800 either.Just don't like the way it fits me and I'm not all that big at 5'10".
