Fuel Pump Replacement
Seeing as how it was raining today, I don't feel quite so bad about turning wrenches.

After 120K or so, the fuel pump died about 3 miles from home :o . As I am a cheap (broke) bastard, I am morally opposed to shelling out $170 plus at the dealer  .

So off we go to AutoZone. Mr.Gasket # 12S looks good, and is only $44.99. It pumps at 4-7 lbs, and draws about 2 amps, so flow or draw shouldn't be excessive. As long as we're in there, might as well replace the fuel filter too. FF2314 fits the stock holder, and at $1.99 beats the snot out of $20 at the dealer.

You'll need a 1/8 NPT brass elbow and 1/8 NPT 1/4" barb to connect the line to the pump You also need to rout out the mounting holes just a bit in order to mount to the stock pump holder. After you get everything lined up, connect the green wire to the black wire on the pump, the other wire, blue/green, to the red wire and voila, a new fuel pump Big Grin .

Total cost out the door with new fuel line and some heat shrink to make everything pretty is $51 plus tax.

Took about 4 hours, but then I get kinda anal about routing things and such.

And lo and behold the rain stopped so I can take a check ride.

Life is good

Is your bike injected because I didnt think 4-7 lbs is enough pressure. If it works thats great. Let us know.
Traning will keep you alive.

Did your Autozone pump work like you hoped? I thought I read somewhere that the Honda pump only put out about 3psi. Anyway, let us know how well it is working.

Morning y'all

I am happy to report that 600+ miles later, the el cheapo fuel pump replacement is working like the proverbial charm Confusedhock:

As the expression goes: no runs, no drips, no errors

Wingy is running strong, and I am a happy boy

A little bit of pump noise when you turn it on, but that's pretty normal for an electric pump anyway, it's no biggie, just the sound of the pump running, and after the bike starts, you don't hear it, even if you lean in to check.

I don't know if the pump/filter has anything to do with it, I know I haven't changed the way I ride, but the last two tanks have been 45+ and 43+ MPG Big Grin

maybe I should sync the carbs?

think I'll go for a ride

Look on the left side of the bike between the CFI cover and the side cover. You'll see it mounted just inside the frame..

Did you see what one person wrote in the reviews of the pump? 1 WEEK AFTER I installed it, it quits on me. Is there a warranty?
