Moving over to Progressive Shocks..
Well "Betty" has had her second repiar issue since my owning her.. The rear Air Shocks are no Longer Air shocks.. Not sure what went but something did go (sounded like the air release from a big rig when it went hehe) Anyway I just found a complete 1984 for parts and pieces, we all know what its like when you major dissassemble an Older rideso the parts bike is there for parts if , more likely when needed.

Anyway I am upgrading to Progressive front and rear (doing the front myself Buying rear prebuilt(work area not ready for that much work yet)
Checking the brakes (changing the fluids) well alot of general maintenance while I have her apart..

So wish me good fortune and of course be expecting many lost posts as I dig into the inner working of my girl :-)

Pictures will be posted as I go along as well on my picture site..

will add a new work in progress area once I start..

Anyway hope to be back on the road soon..

I was lucky when I bought my old wing the previous owner had installed progressives front and rear and I haven't had to mess with them.

Do keep everyone posted with your progress/problems and pictures are great for everyone to really be able to follow along.

Oh yeah, Good luck with your project! I hope everything goes well for you!

Hey RDriver,

I rebuilt my front forks with Progressive springs oil seal, dust seal, & slider ring. It is important to replace the slider ring too because a excessively worn one can give you a symtom like a loose head bearing when its your forks internally loose due to slop in that ring.

Rear suspension is rebuildable to a progressive rear suspension they have springs & seals and dampers

My bike rides & handles much different it has been transformed into a sportier bike, I like it.

Just my two cents

Do they have the springs & seals for the factory shocks or just to rebuild their brand?

I did both front and rear my self.

I looked up what I spent and it is pricey about $380.00 for the rear alone, I think I have heard alot of talk about the Progressive 416 shocks, I am trying to recall why I went with rebuiling my own. I wanted air shocks.

The Dampeners I decided to go with the progressives because I had heard that they had different valving than stock and added another dimension to the sportier side of the GL1200.

The originals you can fill with air, the Progressive 416 I dont think you can. Then I read that someone had one of the 416 comeapart while on a long ride. I decided I would rather do the work myself

I bought all the items through Bike Bandit,

Progressive Parts;
Springs, PS: KIT A-GL1200 120-160 3214222-148929 | -
Dampeners PS: KIT B DAMPERS LONG E/E 3214223-148930 | -

Honda Parts;
2ea GUIDE, DAMPER CASE 52551-001 | Honda 1986 GL1200I GOLD WING INTERSTATE REAR CUSHION

2ea RUBBER, JOINT 54126-001 | Honda 1986 GL1200I GOLD WING INTERSTATE REAR CUSHION

2ea BUSH, RUBBER (UPPER) 54466-001 | Honda 1986 GL1200I GOLD WING INTERSTATE REAR CUSHION

2ea BOOT, RR. 55750-001 | Honda 1986 GL1200I GOLD WING INTERSTATE REAR CUSHION

2ea OIL SEAL 243511-001 | Honda 1986 GL1200I GOLD WING INTERSTATE REAR CUSHION

I havent had any problems as a matter of fact it rides much sportier that before, Handling is much improved braking is improved does not dive as much or wallow around corners, Before it could not be riden very quickly around cornersI might say it was more like a scooter Dont push it. I believe Iam able to take corners much faster now
The bike works better as a whole now.

Have I mentioned lately that This site is AWESOME!!

Everytime I get on my GL1200 I am surprised by the bike it self, what a nice machine.
