Some welding is needed, but if you sent me your fan I could do the welding here. Hi vic.
I can only see one of your pics in the thread. I'd like to look at the fan placement. do you have this posted somewhere else? Yeah, mine is done, but I'm having fun doing more mods until I get it just like I want it. THEN, in the spring I hope to get new paint on. Thanks, bil :roll: |

Here is the ducted fan setup. This was needed to elevate the fan up and away from the crank pulley. I didn't want to push the rad forward because I wanted to retain the stock look
When the fan did not have a shroud my bike would overheat but after the ducted fan treatment above it has never overheated even stationary on 95 degree days.

Important to keep that radiator filled up as the fan is not going to do much of any cooling if it's 3/4 to 1/2 full. Of corse everybody keeps there wings in perfect shape and no one abuses them, so this warning is not needed right?

Thanks for the photos. I'm still piddling with mine so I may move the fan as well. My radiator is moved forward now, but moving the fan would make sense to me. It's a shame i don't have a shop for this sort of thing. I can do the work but don't have the facilities. :cry:
Oh well, when the weather is nice i can get a lot done in the driveway. :? The more i look into this, the more fun it gets. If i keep going it will eventually be a mutant. BUT..... it will look good and it will charge. |

That Nippondenso alternator, did it have three lugs on and you cut one off or did it come like that? I thought I saw here what vehicle it was off but I can seem to find it. Did it com with a metal stamped cover on the back?
LATER THIS DAY. Ok, I found one similar, it is from an 88 firefly, same as the sprint but under the Pontiac name rather than the Chev and it was from a turbo model, why the difference I have no idea. Why did you remove the rear cover, was it a clearance problem, the alternator when on the bike is away from prying fingers behind the fairing so is it not needed. |

Yes, it did come with 3 mounting lugs but you must cut the rear lug off to fit the Wing. Seems to work fine without that lug probably because the alternator is never called to put out max amperage.
It really is an ideal alternator for this application. Don (Poorboy) uses the Mitsubishi but it is definately larger but no more output. I thought I needed the cover removed for clearance ultimately I put it back on because there was lots of room. You can just barely see the cover in place through the shark gill openings.
