Driving or Cornering Lights
I have an 87 Aspencade  which I purchased used last year. The bike is in very good condition, but it does have a problem with the lights that are mounted in the lower part of the front fairing Sad .
Can some one tell me if these lights are driving or cornering lights :?: . At the moment they are haphazardly wired to a bank of switched mounted on the right handlebar. Each light is wired separately, so if you would like both lights on you must turn on TWO switches. This does not seem correct. I would like them to be cornering lights that come on when you initiate the turning indicator and go off with the indicator Idea . Left side with the left indicator and right side with the right indicator. Does anyone know if this is possible or feasible? :?: Thanks in advance.

They are supposed to be cornering lights. Check your shop manual schematics and route the wiring back to stock again fro the results you want.

Hey Gary. My 1500 has the lights tied into the turn signals. BUT I am looking to convert them into driving lights and found a post for that.

These lights on my 1500 really don't light enough of the corner to make a difference. I think they would be more effective for people SEEING the bike then providing cornering lighting. This is my opinion and it MIGHT be different on the 1200's. HECK, leave the lights on and see if they make a difference for you on the 1200 at night for lighting corners. I hope they do but they didn't do much on my 1500.

Here is the post I found SPECIFICALLY FOR THE 1500's. Not sure if it DIRECTLY applies to the 1200's or not but passing it on.

Converting the GL1500SE cornering lights into running lights.

Firstly locate the relays for the cornering lights. They are located under the fairing lower panels. On some models they may be both on the same side.

Follow the wiring from the relays to the connector blocks.

On the bikes side of the loom locate the light blue/white wire for one side of the bike and orange/white wire for the other side.

Cut these wires and the cornering lights will come on when the ignition is switched on.

If you put a small switch oon each wire you can switch back to cornering light operation whenever you want.

The wires draw less than one amp, so low current switches will do.

I converted mine to be on all the time, because as a cornering light they really don't do much.As soon as you start to lean into the corner they just point at the ground.I just did it to make the front look bigger coming towards you. When I get the money I will put the proper driving lights on it.

If Id'a known it would last this long I would've taken better care of it !!!
