GL 1100 Interstate motor damage question

a friend of mine bought a GL 1100 Interstate about a month ago without taking me with him to check it out and it has some bad damage in the left head--the guy he bought it from told him it had a problem with the valves and the problem turned out to be a torn up head and a piston with a huge hole busted through it.
do you think ut would worthwild to try to repair this engine--has 70,000+ on it or to replace it--i think a replacement would be best

If the crank and the cylinder wall is good you might get away with a used piston and ring set but the gaskets, o-rings and seals will cost you a small fortune and there is a lot of labor to consider. A good used 1100 can be had for a few hundred dollars if you do a good search.
