'85 Electrical Troubleshooting manual

I've got one of these and it's an excellent manual for the 1985 GL1200 as it covers all three models: Interstate, Aspencade, and Limited Edition.

Yessir! What kinda glitches are we talking about??

The LCD digits are randomly blinking, its like a bad connection or something, I cant find the problem.

It started this when I washed the bike in August.

I would break apart the connectors on both sides of the inner fairing for a start, check them for any type of corrosion, if they are clean put some electrical greas on them.

Which part of the LCD is blinking? is it just the speedometer?

On the 84 Aspy, trace the wiring from the speed sensor (left side front wheel)
from there there is a small connector then the wiring passes through a 13 pin connector which will be on the inner side of the fairing then behind the headlamp there is 3 pin Red connector.

on the 85 after the first 3 pin connector there is a black 20 pin connector on the fairing then a 13 pin white connector behind the headlight.

Make sure the ground connector on the regulator is clean.

Its mostly the Tach. numerals.

But the speedometer digits too.

Also what is the red strip at the bottom for?

When the engine speed reaches 6500 RPM the red bar will light indicating the engine speed is approaching maximum limit. The red bar will flash when engine speed reaches or exceeds the maximum limit of 7500 RPM, never allow the red bar to flash.

I want to thank you for giving a heads up on this 85 GL1200 electric troubleshooting manual, I received it today and it is in perfect condition,
I don't know if it will be as helpful as tricky :wink: , but it is a great resourse.
Now I can check out my auto level system, as it now works only when it wants to :?

Just change the "1985" to the year you've got and you'll see the goodies available for that year!!

Just disconnecting and re connecting the instrument unit when i changed the lights over to LED in the instruments, all the connectors looked great.

You should try disconnecting and cleaning the fairing plugs also.

I see that thing light up every tiem I start the bike and it does its light checks on the display.
Didnt know what it was for till today! :lol:
