Intake Noise?

I have notice a fair bit of intake noise on my 1200 when I rev it a bit. For example if I have it in neutral and quickly rev it to around 2500~3000.

Today I listened to another 1200 and reved it the same as I have mine, and it seemed quieter, however I did not have my bike there to do a side by side comparison. But I'm pretty sure it was quieter than mine, as far as intake noise.

Is there anything I should check. I did look at my air filter and it was clean and oiled (its a foam filter). I did not see anything that looked wrong.

Do any others notice a fair bit of intake noise?

Hum, kind of hard to put into words. Maybe kind of a suction sounds but a fairly low pitch and it kind of has a "beat" to it??? Does that make sense.

I'm guessing its due to the foam air filter (I think they originally have a paper pleated filter?)

I just want to make sure I'm not missing any parts in the air filter area.

I have a stock air filter in my 1200 and my friend has a foam oiled filter in his 1200, his is a lot throatier sounding than mine. I think the type if air filter does make a difference.

Hey bluewing, that's a good description of what I'm hearing, "throatier". Maybe I will try a stock filter and see if it changes, I bet it will.

Well, Just a quick up date. I found the noise.

Tonight I thought I would take another look at the air filter and found that the lid was not tight around the housing. Under the foam filter is about a 3/8" thick foam ring. With my foam filter on top of this ring the lid would not fit down far enough to make a tight fit around the housing. So I removed this 3/8" thick foam ring and re-installed the foam filter and now it fits nice. No more of this sound that I was talking about. Its nice and quiet in the intake area now.

I wonder if this foam filter is a tad bit taller than the original paper filter?

I had a K&N foam filter in my 1500 when I got it. I replaced it with an OEM paper filter which did seem a bit quieter. The OEM fit better in the airbox and when both filters where held up to the sun it looked to me like the paper media would stop smaller particles than the K&N.

i use the honda air filter and other than the throaty sound when accellerating i get a whistle at cruise speeds.

The foam filters may sound better to some,but they don't filter as well.Stock paper filter for me.
