the factory radio on my 1984 aspencade-panisonic--powers up and everything seems to be ok but no sound out of the speakers--anyone have a clue what to look for--can't seem to find the problem

Before I spend time posting amplifier tests try removing the radio and at the back of the radio there is a plug with connectors in there carefully close up the connectors sometimes they get jarred about and open up and dont make contact.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

I would also try pushing and turning all the buttons and controls in and out several times just in case it's dirty switches and don't forget the switches down by your left keft knee for the treble and auto volume.
