Back with a surprise

I have been away for a spell & when I came back I was surprised @ how little activity there has been on the site. This surprised me because even though it is slow in the summer, it usually picks up in the fall & winter. I just hope everyone is well and not incurring those nasty ailments that we human tend to get with age. I have been deal with a nasty depression which took some time to get my meds straightened out. My back situation & the premature selling of Baby Blue ( arse kicking time lol) played absolute havoc with my brain. I was very close to taking my life. but could do that to Dani & others that love me. Anyway I back now, but I may not post much just sit back & enjoy the posts of all you fine ppl & post when I can offer something. Cheers to all Angela

We are maturing Angela and so are our bikes. People move off this board because they are interested in a newer bike or they just get past that phase of loving their bike because they no longer have the health to ride the bike or their retirement pension won't allow them to insure or repair their bikes. Life happens unfortunately and it happens to everyone, including me. This past July my house burned causing extensive damage to structure and contents and since then my yellow Wing has not been driven or even pushed out of my garage because all of my time and energy and resources have been focused on rebuilding my house. I have barely even had the time to play my 5 new guitars which replace the ones lost in the fire and music is extremely important to me and a great source of stress relief. Fighting with the first contractor which was my insurance company's preferred contractor was an unbelievable nightmare because they performed estimates that did not come close to replacing everything that was lost. I guess they wanted to impress the insurance with a lowball scope of repair and once we saw this we fired them and then our insurance company sent in their own property specialist and she was just as bad as the original contractor in taking from us inappropriately. Then we lucked into an honest and qualified contractor that we could rely on and he helped us to fight the insurance company for what was rightfully ours, but, still the insurance property adjuster was still playing games by altering the agreed upon prices to better benefit themselves and that's when I stopped being a gentleman and started doing some heavy writing and raising my voice over the phone to get the insurance company to fully understand what was going on and how unjust it was. It took the adjuster 4 full rewrites of the scope of repair to finally draft one we would actually approve and sign and this process too 3 months to complete. Once we signed the proof of loss (acceptance of scope of repairs) we were finally able to give our new contractor some cash to get the work done on our house and it looks like we might be back in our house by Christmas if all goes well. So that is what has kept me off this board and off m bike since July. I have only performed administrative duties here to keep the site working and to admit new members. There were a couple of times when I was in great emotional distress a while back that I almost shut this site down, but, thankfully a few folks sent donations to help pay the bills here. Fortunately that helps me to understand that this site is worth the time, effort and cash I put in here and that also tells me that this site is worth something to someone out there. Without donations this site would wither and die fairly quickly. I'm back with a surprise also, starting in 2015, after my home is all back together I want to make an attempt to market this site and bring all GL1200 owners here to use this site as their base reference for repairing their GL1200's so I'll be accepting ideas, possibilities and suggestions to help make this site the premier GL1200 site on the internet, just like it used to be. Let me know what you think everyone and don't be shy about how we can achieve that goal of being on top again.

Oh Vic, I am so sorry for your loss. At least "stuff" can be replaced. The situation you described with contractors sounded so much like a "Mike Holmes" show. What most people don't know is that a lot of Insurance Co., will argue as they believe that you have lost all your papers in the fire, only to get caught by clients that make use of fire proof boxes or safety deposit boxes to store their important papers. Glad you got everything sorted. Yes I agree that we all move on, but this is my favorite forum & you & the members here have been a great help to me over the years. I am also so glad to hear that you are still getting some donations because this site is important to the 1200 community. I feel so embarrassed that I am unable to no longer donate to the site but I fall under that category that you mention about low pensions. With my CPP & OAS + supplements, I bring home a huge 1400 buck a month & I have to live in the most expensive place in the world. At least my mortal health is good.. I am in the process of trying to get a mobility scooter but the Provincial Gov. is so tight that I'll end up with the same old that all seniors have. How's this for a mobility scooter?
    And there are a lot of scooters that are just as cute, but with the Prov. Gov., I'll probably end up with the same old, same old that pedestrians can pass you. Anyway Vic I am sure you will be in your house for Christmas & that you & yours will sit back & cherish each other. I also am sure that the good Lord will guide you into a great New Year. I don't know if it counts in the post or activity counter that I assume the site has, but there are many, many times that I log on and just look at new posts without posting myself. The coolest thing is, I have likely read about just every issue these bikes have ever had. If I need information I can likely find it without too much trouble.

If the site reaches a critical stage in regard to finances, please let us know and we can all dig deep to keep it going.

Come to think of it, there was a post regarding donations a while back that I never acted on. There isn't much extra to spare, but I will be sending something.

Wishing everybody a great holiday and a happy New Year. Riding season is months away here, but we can always dream and read. Thanks to everybody who keeps the site going.
