What is the most efficiant way to get more light up front at night?

SEEMS LIKE A LEAP OF FAITH driving in the desert mountains at night.

Do you change out the factory brake light to adjust for the low output of the factory stator to allow for driving lights?

Input please!!!!

The easiest way is to install a Sylvania Silver Star light bulb in the headlight, dramatic results. Next, some high mounted driving lights will make a major difference. For bigger bucks you can install the xenon lights which make a big, big difference but cost like crazy. I'm open for any other ideas from other members.

Changing the brake lights is not going to help much at all Marty because you'll be driving through the desert, at speed with no brakes on mostly so the difference will hardly be noticed. If you were driving slow, in town frequently with accessory high output driving lights the LED brake lights might make a minor difference but not much. On the GL1000/1100 it would make a big difference because alternator output was marginal.

Thanks Vic....I do a fair amount of city driving as I drive the bike sometimes for work. I read somewhere that the brake light is like 40w and 70 more if you hit the brake. This takes up a pretty large percentage of the available 350w. (I also have a led brake bar that lights when I hit the brakes)

Is a Sylvania 9003 ST and H4 the same lamp?

Hmmmm....I bought some xeon lights last year off ebay for my Lincoln. I loved the COLOR as they were bright white, however I could not see A THING while driving and after about 3 months (even driving with the brights on) I finally pulled over and changed them back on the side of the road.

After reading this:

It makes me leary to do the same thing on my bike where I cannot afford to not see.

Thoughts?

Anybody got a link to driving lights they love?

You can easily get shafted on Ebay sometimes if you don't know exactly what you're buying. Xenon light are 3 part affairs, the bulb, the wiring harness and the transformer. Is that what you had on your car? If not they were fake Xenon.

Here's a link to the H4 Silverstar http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProduct ... oductLine/ I don't believe the 9003 ST are the same as the H4. Maybe the same base but the output is different.

It appears that my headlamp is the original and I'm adding a pair of driving lights. Otherwise, I have to stop and light a match to see if the headlamp is on.
Seriously, the darn thing is pretty dim so I want to replace it. From the suggestions here I am still a bit unsure of my options. I don't want to overheat but I need a bit more light. So..... what do you guys suggest I buy?

thanks.

Sylvania Silver Star will impress you totally and completely. It's like finally turning the lights on, you can see people, road signs and small animals on the road that you would have missed with the stock headlight bulb. Then adding quality driving lights makes it almost seem like driving in the daytime, they fill in the sides. Makes a big difference on driving fatigue because the better lights cut down on the stress because you can see without straining.

I'll try the Silver Stars but they get lousy reviews. I assume you have one?

A guy would have to be blind to not notice the vast difference between the stock headlight and a Silver Star, it's night and day. Yes, I do have one in my Wing.

would running full headlights during daylight hours maybe make these Silver Star last a little longer.
i do this with my stock bulb now as i heard that it's less excess wattage for the bike to dump to ground and you are not using the same fillament all the time in the bulb

Try the Silverstars. You won't be disappointed. I'm still amazed at the difference.
