front fork issue
This can't be good, but I hope you tell me its not real bad!

Taking my front wheel off to replace the tire.

When I get the cap off one side, oil starts running out. Turns out the allen bolt (plug) in the bottom of the fork is very loose, about to fall out. Tightened up fine, but all the oil has come out. How do I refill it?

As a side note, I also think it needs bearings. I am taking the wheel to a shop.

I also need a speedo cable, where can I order one?

For a GL1200I (no air pump)

1. Release air pressure in forks by removing valve core from Schraeder valve.
2. Remove drain bolt on lower end of fork.
3. Screw 5mm vacuum fitting into drain hole. Verify your drain hole takes a 5mm bolt!!
4. Attach drain hose to fitting and put other end in drain pan.
5. Apply low pressure air (<5 psi) to air valve until shock is empty.
6. Attach clean hose to 5mm fitting and place other end in 10.2 ounces of ATF III.
7. Attach hand vacuum pump to air valve and suck clean fluid into fork.
8. Remove 5mm fitting and screw in cleaned drain bolt.
9. Replace valve core, pressurize up to 6 psi and replace air valve cap.

5mm vacuum fittings are available on the web at sites such as http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/400616141855?lpid=82. Just enter "5mm vacuum fitting" in your search engine.

Motion Pro also sells speedometer cables.

Think I could use the hand vac like you use to bleed brake lines?

I guess you would want to do both forks at the same time?

Thanks for the info, sounds like a better plan than I had!

Yes, I would do one shock and then the other to make sure the fluid was clean and full in both.

Yes, I use the same vacuum pump to bleed brakes.
