stuck bolt
Well the weather warmed up enough to make it to the garage. So I started removing the tires. When I got to removing the back one I found the lower bolt for the right rear shock stripped. Well the head stripped I should say. There is no way to get a wrench on it. Does any one have a idea on how to remove it. I pulled the final drive unit out with the shock stuck on it. I put BP blaster on it an tried a pair of vise grips with no luck. Can I heat it or will that hurt the drive unit.

problem is that the bolt only protrudes a slight amount and is easily stripped ,what i did is took a die grinder and grind down the boss there so that a wrench could contact the bolt in the non-stripped area, there is plenty of material in that area to so so
have done this on several mc's since then with nil results
of course getting a good bolt for later use would be a good suggestion
hopefully from this picture you can tell what was done

After looking at the photo. I'm not sure what you have ground down with the die grinder. Are you grinding the area that the bolt threads into. Behind the shock. Then putting a bolt and nut thru the shock?

the bolt when installed hardly protrudes enough to have the wrench attached,i ground down the area around the bolt head

Ok now I understand what you have done. The only problem is on mine the head is round I mean ROUND. But thanks for the info.

What I would try is to use a die grinder abrasive wheel to make a slot in the head of the bolt, then using a sharp and square large slotted screwdriver clamped by vise grips I would turn the bolt out. Make sure that the swing arm is exerting neutral pressure on the bolt to aid in removal and a bit of penetrating oil won't hurt either. This bolt is tightened to a relatively low torque so it should come out with the screwdriver.

Well I got it out. I took the unit to work with me. I welded a nut to the rounded off bolt head and put some more penetrating oil on it over night. Today I went in to work and slowly working it back and forth got it out.
