gl1200 trunk/rear lights guard installation question
hi wingers

I've just bought a rear trunk guard
for the rear lights. I don't know how to
fit it correctly. It has little
lower brackets on it and I can't
find anywhere to fit them too! doh!

Please see the attached image!

I've searched the forum, the manual
and the web to no availe.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Kind regards!

Angel

You may have to remove the trunk to determine where this bolts in place.
Not having one I can only guess where this bolts.
The only place this could bolt is in the area of the helmet locks, in the same vicinity of where the antennas bolts.
You won't find this in the manuals because it is aftermarket.
The vertical holes may be for vertical adjustment to allow you to center the rack around the LOGO in the rear of the trunk base.
Also, only one of the two available holes may be used to bolt this trim to the rack.

see if this link is viewable,
if so, see if you can blow up the picture to see greater detail. The trim piece appears to bolt in the area which I stated above.

Good Luck.

hi bs

many thanks for your reply!

the bike has been stripped
of all the luggage and panels.
this was to replace the main harness
and paint anything that needs tlc!

we tried the rear trunk/lights guard
round the trunk and can't find
anything for the brackets to bolt too?

many thanks wingers for any input
here!

Following the link provided above by bs175dths this bike http://www.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/bikes/gl1200.html would appear to have a bumper very similar to the one you pictured. There is a frame that mounts under the Luggage trunk and on the back of it is the mounts for antennas and Helmet holders.
It would appear that mount you are pointing to is attached there somehow.

Having not seen one of these close up and personal I would be just guessing to go any further.

check out these pictures and see if they might offer a clue as to it's mounting

If it's not broke, I can fix that!

try these pictures:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-HONDA-GL120...298wt_1161

it appears the bracket with the two vertical oblong holes does, in fact, go somewhere in the vicinity of where the antennea's would mount and the threated stud can go to a clamp and is attached to the trunk/rack base to the side of the seat. If you don't have that clamp, I am sure one can be fashioned.

I have also seen a piece of flat stock bolted to the threaded stud and bent in such a way as to be bolted to one of the holes in the rack in the vicinity of where the rear fender or saddle bag is bolted to the trunk rack.

Again, good luck.
