Looking for part
Well, I won the right sensor on eBay for 60.00 including the shipping. It came from a bike with 38k on the clock and its was an 84 so it will hook right up. So I won't have to do the cutting after all. The guy that sold it to me said that if the part is DOA that he would refund my money. Thats all I can ask for.

Today I ran the bike around the parking lot to be sure the speedo wasn't working then did the sensor test again. I got eight pulses at a max of 2.3 volts when it should have be 5.0 volts. That makes me beleive the sensor is bad. I also took the cover off of the speed sensor and found a little water inside. I pulled the front tire again and checked the speedo drive dog and the plastic gear in the speedo housing. cleaned and grease the speedo housing gears and put it back together. Everything was in good shape. The only thing that bothered me was that in the book it didn't say anything about greasing the gears in the speedo housing but sense they move and turn I figured it was best to do it. If I'm wrong about this please let me know so I can clean it all back out of there. I also checked all the connectors that are on the left and right side of the fairing and they were all clean, lubed and connected.

Thanks for all your help on this subject and hopefully I'll have a working speedo again soon so I can check out the auto volume control.
