Turn Signal Woes

My turn signals were working when I bought the bike, but on the ride home, they quit. The 4- ways work fine. It's an '86 Interstate and I've tried searching the post with no luck as to finding a solution. On the Interstate you can't swap out the flasher relay between the 4-way and the turn signal as they are not the same, the 4-way is a 3 pin connection and the turn signal is a 4 pin. I went to the local bike salvage yard and tried 2 turn signal relays and it still does the same thing, when I press the signal either left or right, the bulbs go out and don't flash. I can feel the relay click once. I have a wiring schematic for a '85 Interstate but the color codes are not the same, but I can at least see where the wires go. I want to think it's the auto cancel that's bad, but I can't find the unit to disconnect it. Any Ideas?

Hopefully this is an easy of a fix as the dead battery was. I had the same problem and it was a simple switch that was easily replaced. At the time, I had a mechanic that took care of it for me so I don't have further experience to help you. Someone with some smarts should be along to help!

Sounds like a bum flasher, but the first and easiest thing to do would be to spray some contact cleaner in there and work the switch. Could be corroded internally. Secondly, take a test light and see if you have power going down to the flasher from the signal switch. That will tell you wich way to go.
I've also seen a badly shorted bulb cause the same problem. Let us know of your progress.

Well, finally found it... It was the flasher, dirty contacts on the wiring harness. Maybe some dirty grounds also. At least now I know where every relay and flasher is.
