spongy front (hand) brake

I'm not sure where to proceed, the front brake on my '85 LTD (108,000 miles) is spongy and I've bled the brake several times with no improvment. I rebuilt the master cylinder and that didn't help either. There are no leaks and the pads are about 1/2 worn. On first pull I can grip the brake lever almost to the handgrip, if I give it a half dozen pumps it's almost normal, but will return to it's spongy ole self. Any ideas?

Still air in the line
Place a cloth under the banjo connection at the master cylinder, crack the bolt open a little, pull the lever and hold, snug the bolt, do it two or three times then tighten the bolt. Also check the bushing on the lever it could be worn.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.
