driving lights

My '84 Aspencade has the accessory driving lights and light bar. Each light has only 1 electrical wire running to them. Is this a hot wire and if so, how are they grounded? I am unable to get them to work. The bulbs test good. Is there a wiring diagram for these lights? Thanks

If I remember correctly, the driving lights and light bar werenât an option in 84, so Iâm assuming what you have is an aftermarket set up. What youâre going to have to do is simply trace the wire back to see where it goes. Most likely the lights are grounded to the frame by being bolted to the light bar which in turn is bolted to the frame, and the wire youâre seeing is the hot wire. Iâve seen some set ups that are wired directly to the head light so that when the head light is on, the running lights are also. I wouldnât suggest this. A separate switch with a relay is a much safer way, less chance of a fire.

The lights are grounded to the metal light housing, which is bolted to the light bar, which in turn is bolted directly to the frame of the bike.

since the driving lights are not stock they wont be working thru any stock switches etc, your only option is to pull the tank and trace the wires back to a power source, most likely back the a relay which ultimately connects back to the battery, somewheres is a fuse holder with a blown fuse i would bet
