gl1200 interstate rear lights question please! - steelhorseangel - 04-07-2013

hi wingers

greetings from across the pond!
my name is angel and I'm a
lady winger!
my dad was called eric, he taught
my brothers and i too ride and wrench.
to maintain our own bikes.
sadly dad is now in the happy
hunting ground (44) and he
rides on my shoulder, as my guardian
angel!

I've now bought my relative
norman his first Goldwing as a 70th
birthday present. he doesn't ride,
he has bad balance. i bought
his dream bike as a gift.
i was rear end shunted in '04
and laid up with full back injuries.
i don't have any family, or partner.
he did my shopping, chores, admin,
everything without complaint!
payback time from me, with love!
norman smiled from ear to ear
on being presented with his wing keys!

lights problem
****

former 14 owners butchered the wiring.
we've restored a few bikes now.
we took the fairing and luggage off
to see the skeleton. acquired a color
schematic and repaired the birds nest
wiring. it's all factory now. :-)
all the front lights work.

the rear lights are more than I'm used
too. the trunk lights needed rewiring.
the po's cut into these. all repaired
properly with correct colors and
heat shrinks! all the lights on the trunk
work. two circuits found, main tail
light and stop/brake light.

q) do each of the saddle bags
also have a tail light and a stop/brake
light too?

q2) are there any other connections
other than the three harnesses at the
rear to make all lights 'daisy chain'
and light up please?
the po's had a single wire
earth/ground going from inside the
trunk fix hole screw, going down to
the licence plate? is this oem
wiring or po's botched job?

q3) the brake lights don't work
front or rear. the dashboard shows
a rear tail warning message.
I've not checked the rear light fuse (15A!)
relay switches, work in progress.
does anyone know how many
relay switches should be on the
gl1200 interstate please?
i don't where they should be located?

many thanks for helping me wingers!

kind regards

Angel :-)

The Interstate trunk had no lighting as you can see by the diagram it was an option.

Also the following diagrams

Brake light relay

hi tricky

thanks for your reply!
mine has, the po's must've had them
installed.

I've a long trunk light on the top.

the bottom of the trunk has a tail
and stop lights!

q) does the trunk connect to one
harness? then the two saddle bags
to two other harness's only?

many thanks

angel
