What is a Starlight? - Dave-85-LTD - 07-04-2007

I have had my 85 LTD for 1 1/2 weeks, Big Grin Big Grin
I just changed oil, oil filter, and air filter. When I was trying to get down to the air filter, I found a block of plastic with a 20A fuse on one side and a lot of wires coming out of the other side. It has a label marked
Starlight Riding Safety Light Control unit.
Manufactured by
Kriss mfg. & Machine inc. Tucson AZ

Is this a light modulator :?: if so it doesn't seem to work,

It has a connector with about 8 wires hooked into the bikes system.

I found a few other wires heading from this block, towards a 3 postition switch that PO installed, I haven't been able to see any effect any which way I move switch. if there is a photo cell I haven't been able to find it.
Also there is a black and a green wire that have been cut off about 2" from the unit.
I am cleaning and checking every thing, this is the only thing I haven't figured out yet

Thanks for your help

When I Googled it I learned that it's a bicycle safety lighting unit presumably. Apparently if it the same one it's a HID unit made for night time bicyclers. I guess the guy that had your bike wanted to be seen.

I don't think this thing was ment for a bicycle, it is too complex for a bicycles needs. It looks like it doesn't work, but there is 9 wires coming out of it that I will trace through the bike and remove, if I can't use it, I don't want it on the Wing.

Do you recommend a headlight modulator :?: and if so what is the best one to have.

Thanks; Dave

I can't recommend a headlight modulator because I don't have one but I can recommend a Sylvania Silver Star H4 headlite bulb because they really brighten up the road dramatically at night on low beam as well as high beam. Big, big difference in lighting effieciency.
