Fan Fuse - marksaunders - 07-18-2013

Does anyone have an idea where the fan fuse is located on a 85 Interstate? I tried searching the cooling section with no luck. My fan quit working yesterday during a 90 + degree day.

According to the schematic, power for the fan comes from one of the terminals in the ignition switch, goes through a 10A (marked fuse #1) to the fan motor and then to the thermal switch.
A blue wire from the fan goes to a plug which then changes the wire color to Black/Blue as it goes to the fuse.
From the ignition switch side, the color of the wire is Blue/Orange going to the fuse.

I hope this helps.

Of course, if the fuse is good, it is probably the thermal switch. They are notorious for failing.

I added a indicator light in parallel with the fan, and a manual switch to simulate the thermal switch.
I know when my fan comes on and at what deflection of the temperature needle.
So, IF I get to that temperature and the fan indicator light does not come on, I throw the switch. Big Grin
(BTW - putting the indicator light in parallel will still allow the fan to operate if the indicator light bulb quits)

It looks like K&L makes a replacment thermo switch. The part number is 217346. Has anyone used this before?

On the Interstate models, you should find the fan fuse on the left side of the frame under the seat.
It is a cylindrical glass tube type inside a plastic holder.

Item 14 if you can get to see the following link:

checked K&L catalog part number is 21-7346

talked with motorcycle superstore part number is 372609 price 67.99 in stock

this is pretty much same price as mother honda online

i used a fanswitch from a 91 geo metro which is working fine (BK # 201-1614) problem comes that the connector for it only comes on the wiring harness from the car, junk yard time ......lol

RE: Fan Fuse - marksaunders - 07-19-2013

I couldn't find the fuse. No matter I had power to the thermo switch. I think I'm going to use the Honda switch when I have down time to replace.

happy to report that i found a connector that will work when using the geo metro fanswitch,Beck-Arney # 201-1614
a napa CRB part # 2-18545 will work perfect if the outer shell of the connector is ground off leaving the inner part to connect into the fanswitch, although an original connector off the car would be preferred
